Christmas Day & Beyond

クリスマスはお姉ちゃん夫婦の家に遊びに行きましたわ。お姉ちゃん夫婦に今年４番目の女の子が産まれました。とにかく可愛い。３番目の子は２年前に会った時は、赤ちゃんだったのに、既に歩き、片言の英語をいい、子供の成長って早いものだわ。しかも、上２人の女の子は、当たり前だけど英語がペラペラ。んーーまたもや頑張らねばと思う日だったわ。デービスはというとジョシュのお父さんから離れない。いっつも膝の上に座っているのよ。かなりお父さんの事が気に入ったらしい。
クリスマスの翌日はミネソタにある全米第３位のモールでお買い物。毎回思うが、モールの中に歩く歩道を備えつけてほしいわ。歩くのが苦手な私にはかなり辛いわ。でもお買い物は楽しいわ。またお買い物に行きたいわ。

[continued] Christmas Day was spent at the Swenson's. Christmas 2005 was Soren's first Christmas while he was still a baby in a Santa Claus outfit. Now he is constantly running around, getting into 'trouble'. This year was Annika's first Christmas. The Swenson's are: Dean, Jen, Elizabeth, Heidi, Soren & Annika and of course the peaceful Maggie (golden retriever). Takako was surprised at the English-speaking level of Elizabeth & Heidi. She wants to become more fluent. Day-bis & Kuro accompanied us although Kuro tried to stand up to Maggie (barking), Day-bis was comfortable on Grandpa Wes's lap. The last couple of days we spent in Minnesota was primarily for shopping. We went to the Mall of America (the world's 20th largest mall), IKEA & Southdale (nation's oldest climate-controlled mall). We had a great time, wish we could've stayed longer, but we are close. It is only about 5-6 hours away!

Christmas 2007 in Minnesota

片道６時間かけてジョシュの実家のミネソタまで行ってきました。実家に行くのはこれで４回目ですわ。ってか片道６時間、休憩しながらだったけど車、乗っているの、辛かった。クリスマスイブはジョシュの両親と妹夫婦と過ごしました。最後は皆でボードゲームをしたんだけど楽しかったですわ。実は２年前のクリスマスイブもミネソタにいました。その時に、ジョシュにプロポーズをされたんだけど、全く予知してなかったから、かなりの勢いで驚いたわ。しかもおばあちゃんに、両親、お姉ちゃん夫婦に子供達、弟夫婦、妹夫婦がいる前で、まぁ、ロマンティックだったけど、、、次のロマンティックはいつかしらねぇ。。。。

Just last Saturday, we left Bellevue bound for Minnesota to celebrate Christmas 2007 with the family! It was a 6-hour drive that took us into Iowa and up to Minnesota. Not much to see so I will spare you the details. Upon arrival at my parents house, we introduced Day-bis & Kuro and unloaded our Highlander. The following morning we attended Hosanna and saw niece's Elizabeth & Heidi in their Christmas concert. Wonderful performance! This was the second Christmas in Minnesota that Takako & I have celebrated. The first was back in 2005, the perfect setting for the 'proposal'. The only difference was that Grandma Mabel was not here to enjoy the time together. Also, this year Jared & Mary travelled down to Florida to celebrate with Mary's family, so we only saw them the first two days then dropped them off at the airport in on Christmas Eve morning. Jen, Dean & E, H, S, A were going to celebrate Christmas Eve with the Swenson's. It was a nice quiet evening at home for eating Potato Chowder with Mom, Dad, Chris, Jill, Takako & of course the two little boys. After opening presents, we played the board game. Then it was on to Christmas Day... [to be continued]

Real-life drama + couple of nights before Christmas

アメリカにきて、あるドラマにハマりました。でもね、すぐファイナルをむかえちゃったんだけど。かなりリアリティのあるドラマでさ、どこまでが本当でどこまでが、、、ってかなり気になるドラマ「The Hills」ですが、次シーズンも見なくては。昔からアメリカのドラマが好きで、高校生の頃はフルハウスをみてましたわ。その後、「Charmed」に「Malcolm in the Middle」「Friends」と。今もこっちで放送されているので見てますが、私の英語力では、全部の理解には苦しむわ。頑張らねば、英語。
寒い日が続いているので、デービスとクロをお風呂に入れました。初めてのお風呂。今まではシャワーだけだったんだけど、毎日、雪の上を歩くので肉球もガサガサ。暖めないとね。クロはゴクゴク、お湯を飲んでましたわ。デービスは相変わらず、慎重でビクとも動かず。
今週末からジョシュの実家のミネソタに帰りますわ。

Since we have been here in Nebraska, Takako has been slowly getting immersed in 'American' TV shows. Actually more real-life dramas on MTV such as The Hills. She couldn't tell if it was scripted or real-life. When she was in high school, she watched Full House. She then went onto other shows such as Charmed, Malcolm in the Middle and Friends. She couldn't understand a lot of the English but those shows were easy to understand at her level of comprehension.
The past couple of days have been cold weather in Bellevue. Day-bis and Kuro's paws are quite dry. Tonight they received their first bath in the states! Kuro wasn't scared of drinking the bath water but Day-bis just stood still, probably thinking to himself, "what should I do?" This coming weekend the four of us will pile into the Highlander, trek up to Minnesota to celebrate Christmas with the family!

Fun in Nebraska

変圧器が臭いですわって事で先日購入した変圧器をつないで掃除をしていたら、ヘンテコな臭いがしてきたと思ったら掃除機が動かなくなってしまったわ。ガビーン。で、色々調べたら、電化製品を使用する際は２、３倍のワット数の変圧器が必要って事らしいの。聞いてないわ。私。って事は、３０００ワットの変圧器が必要なのよ。そんなの売ってるのか？って感じだけど、現在、問い合わせ中。だから炊飯器もポットも掃除機も使えず。冷蔵庫だけは省エネだから全くワット数を使ってないの。だから今つないでいる変圧器で大丈夫。炊飯器はなくても普通に鍋でご飯を炊けるから大丈夫。問題は掃除機なのよね。で、悩んだあげく掃除機は今必要って事で買う事に決めたわ。今まで使っていたのはダイソンなんだけど、かなりいい具合の掃除機。で、今回もダイソンを購入。言葉もそうだけど、電圧とかも世界共通にして欲しいものだわ。

Moving from Japan to the US comes with some small problems. We have many appliances that require 100V input. We didn't want to just plug them into the American outlets (120V) because the appliances would overheat in a while. Once we became connected to the net, we surfed for step-down transformers (120V->100V) so that we can go on with our appliances as we have been. We purchased two transformers although while Takako was vacuuming, she popped the fuse and possibly a lot more on our 200 Watt transformer. We need a LOT more wattage for our Japanese Dyson vacuum. Right now, we are awaiting a price quote for a 3000 Watt step-down transformer so that we can swap it out with some smaller appliances. Other than fun with power, we did end up purchasing a new Dyson vacuum. So far we love it.

We have also been having fun with Day-bis & Kuro while getting them used to the snow. Kuro loves the taste.

Our home in NE

気がつけば１２月も半ばですが、私達は元気ハツラツでーす、ブヒ。さて、オマハにきてすぐ家が見つかりました。ベースが管理している家なんだけど丁度、空いていてね。ラッキー。入居作業も無事完了しましたわ。こっちにきてから、欲しかったフカフカのソファとダイニングテーブル、洗濯機と乾燥機を買いました。冷蔵庫だけは備え付けがあったんだけどさ。せっかく日本から冷蔵庫を持ってきたから、台所へ設置したわ。が！寸法が合わない。まぁ、気にせず、無理矢理台所に入れたけどさ。でもね、変圧器を持参するのを忘れたの。そう電圧が違うじゃぁん、アメリカと日本じゃ。おかげで、入居したのはいいけど、日本から持ってきた電化製品使えず、ガビーン。結局、インターネットで購入。一安心だわ。
車も購入しました。日本にいるうちからジョシュがこっちのディラーさんと話していて、オマハに着いた時には既に車もあり。新車で、ハイブリットだわ。私は車の事は、よく分からないから全てジョシュにお任せコースだったけど、乗り心地はとてもいいわ。果たして私、この大きな車を運転できるのかが不明だけど。
家の写真何枚かのせておきますわ。３ベットルームがあるんだけど、まだ荷物が散らばっているので、ベットルームの写真は次回という事で。

Here we are, in the middle of December. We (Day-bis & Kuro included) are doing great in Omaha. We found a house very quickly through the 'on-base' housing office. We moved in last Friday, have unpacked the larger items, although we are still unpacking smaller boxes. This past weekend we purchased a sofa, chair & ottoman, washer & dryer and a dining room table + 4 chairs. There was a refrigerator already in the remodeled home but since we brought ours from Japan, we swapped it out. It doesn't quite fit in the space allowed but we prefer ours. Also, since some of our kitchen appliances are Japanese, they need 100V input but since we have 120V here, we needed to purchase a couple of step-down transformers online. Prior to moving into the home, we purchased our 2008 Toyota Highlander Hybrid. Josh had already reserved the vehicle via email with the Toyota dealership (it's a little dirty in the pic). We both feel the vehicle is very comfortable and large enough for our needs. Takako feels that it might be too large for her to learn to drive. We have snapped some pics of our home but more pics to follow due to the organization of the the three bedrooms.

December 1st -- Our longest day of this year

実感のないまま出発の日がきてしまいました。 お昼には横田ベース着き、皆でご飯を食べたりお話したり。時間は過ぎ、涙涙の別れをしていざ、チェックイン。がっ、なんと私、出国手続きをしてなかった。実は横田はアメリカ領土 だから日本の出国手続きをしなきゃいけなくて、急いでオフベースに行って出国手付きをしてまたチェックイン。感動の別れから一転、「どんだけー」の 別れになってしまいました。
まずは横田からシアトルまで 。なんと飛行時間８時間。早かった。で、シアトルでは６時間位時間があったからジョシュの友人 に会い、その後、シアトルからデンバーに向かいました。でもシアトル出発頃から天候が悪くて、デンバーに着く頃には、更に悪化。 デンバーに着いた時には次の飛行機が３時間の遅延。まぁ、無事にデンバーからオマハまで飛行機が飛んだけど、結局夜中にオマハに到着。
殆ど寝てないまま送りにきてくれた、サチ、タク、カナコママ、カーリ、サム、 ありがとうね。また、朝から車を出してくれたシューキちゃん夫妻ありがとう。お母さんもありがとう、赤飯、美味しかったわ。

What a trip. Our day started out by Josh picking up Day-bis & Kuro at [Purely] pet hotel. We picked up Kabu-chan at the Fussa train station to head on base. Takako was awaiting her friends that wanted to wish us the last ‘see-you-later’. Everyone met at the Yokota Passenger Terminal at about 2 pm. We checked in, chatted a little more with friends just prior to heading to the gate. Some tears started. Once we approached the gate and Takako showed her passport, we stated about finalizing her Immigration Visa (IV), the Passenger Service agents told us we needed a ‘Japan departure’ stamp. We needed to head about 5 minutes off base, received the stamp and then another ‘see-you-later’. At about 4:45 pm we left from Yokota bound for Seattle. The flight was about eight hours to Seattle where we finalized the IV, received our baggage including the little boys to take out for a walk and to relieve themselves. The time was about 9-10 am. We then met Andy at Sea-Tac. We wish it could’ve been longer but before we knew it, the layover was complete and we needed to head for the gate en-route to Denver. Once arrived in Denver, we noticed that our flight had been delayed for about three hours. We didn’t leave Denver until about 10 pm, still on the 1st of December. Finally arrived in Omaha at a little after midnight. That was a long day. We thank everyone that helped us get here. Shuki/Nick - thanks for driving. Thank you very much also to: Kabu-chan, Sachi, Taku, Kanako-mama, Sam, Karisuma. We hope to see you again, in the near future!

Last party, party

１２月１日に出発ですが、前日の３０日は、私の送別会でした。渋谷のお店で飲んだ後、更に、渋谷で二次会。その後は、六本木に向かい、クラブへ。でも飲み会の前あたりから左足がズキズキ痛くて、全く踊れず、足をのばしたいからカラオケに行きましたわ。最後はやはりラーメンを食べて、解散。平日の昼間にランチしたり、夕方飲みに行ったり、週末も遊びに行ったり、皆さん、お時間、割いてくれて本当にありがとうございました。ゴッツ楽しかったですわ。あっ、写真にタクエモンの額には「肉」、ヒネリの額には「魚」、私はアメリカに行くから「米」っていう文字をミカチンに書いてもらいましたわ。

November 30th, Takako's final going away party with the 'crew' since she will leave with Josh, Day-bis & Kuro on 1 December for the states. The party started off with drinking in Shibuya and then a second party also in Shibuya. Once those two parties concluded, the headed for Roppongi. Takako's feet hurt so she didn't care to dance so the crew went to karaoke so that Takako can kick her feet up to rest. As with many of the other parties, this one also ended up at a ramen shop and then get ready to head for Yokota. Takako wishes to thank everyone that made her last couple of weeks so enjoyable. By the way, the symbols on the foreheads are Takako = America, Taku = Meat and Hineri = Fish. Mika's wonderful artwork.

牛角 (Gyu-Kaku with friends)

ジョシュとトムとエリックは牛角に焼き肉を食べに行きました。２６００円で食べ放題。ジョシュは牛角が大好きなんだよね。お肉もおいしいしね。特にミソカルビが大好きで、いつも頼みます。今日も、ミソカルビ、ハラミ、豚、後は、ご飯と、野菜などなど。私は、ジョシュ達と一緒には行けなかったんだけど、無事にオーダできたみたいです。実は私も品川の牛角に行ってました。食べ過ぎて苦しいですわ。
当分、牛角ともおさらばですわ。寂しいねぇ。。

Tonight, Josh, Tom & Eric ate at Gyu-Kaku. They had the ¥2600 course with the 'good meat'. They had miso-kalbi, harami, pork and a couple more various types of meat. They balanced all of it with rice, cabbage with sesame oil, hashed-browns and garlic bulbs. Very delicious. It seemed a little bit difficult at first since it was the first time ordering without the help of Takako. They finished with vanilla ice cream & hot tea.

Mexican restaurant

メキシコ料理を食べに行ってきました。とにかくお腹空いていて沢山食べましたわ。その後は、また六本木に。で、朝はラーメンを食べて、解散。さて、出発までカウントダウンに入りました、が、全く実感がありませんわ。

Takako was joined by Sachi, Taku, Kanako-mama and Sam as they ate at a Mexican restaurant here in Tokyo. Josh was still feeling a little under the weather so he didn't join in the fun. They had a LOT of food and continued once again to Roppongi to dance the night away. They had Ramen in the morning, also once again. We will be leaving Japan very soon. We have begun the countdown! (Takako still doesn't feel that we will really leave.)

The partying continues... Banana (バナナ)-style

ここ最近、飲み会が続いてますが、今日はミユキ、リョウ、ケイコ夫妻に会いました。
最後に会ったのは、ケイコの結婚式以来だったので、半年ぶりかな。アジア料理屋さんだったけど量が多かったわ。最後にデザートが出たんだけど、一瞬「鳥にチョコレートソース？アジアのデザートなん？」って思ってしまいました。でも食べたら、凍らしたバナナにチョコレートソースがかかっていておいしかったですわ。プレゼントを頂きました。万歩計とお花。最近の万歩計は凄いですわ、ブザー付き。安心して歩けますわ、ありがとう。そーいえば、リョウは「フグの調理師免許」を持っていると今日、初めて聞きましたわ。
次はヤスがいるサンディエゴで会いましょう。

Takako met Miyuki & Ryo, Keiko & her husband. The last time she saw them was at the 'Four Season's wedding' back in April. They went to an Asian restaurant. The last meal that the restaurant brought was a dessert but Takako thought it looked like chocolate-covered chicken but in actuality it was frozen bananas with chocolate. (I wish I could have been there.) She said that it was delicious. They gave her some presents. A flower and a pedometer. Recent addition to the pedometer is a personal. She also just found out that Ryo has a blowfish fishing license. Since it is a poisonous fish, you need a license to catch it. She would love to meet up with them again and meet with Yasu in San Diego. Overall, she had great time. She says, "Thank you!"

清澄庭園 (Kiyosumi-Teien)

今日も天気がいいですわ。清澄庭園に行ってきました。庭は綺麗だし、癒されますわ。そーえば東京には「9庭園」があるみたいです。できれば全部回りたいけど。。。。んーー。その後はまた「もんじゃ」を食べに行ってきました。

Today was another great weather day. We visited, Kiyosumi-Teien. It is one of 9 of Tokyo's 'Historical' parks. The other one that we have visited was, Kyu furu kawa tei. It was very scenic for being in the middle of the city. After that, Takako felt like eating Monja again so we went to Tsukishima once again. Delicious.

新宿 going away

今日は、ジョシュの送別会でした。お店は焼き鳥屋さんで、コース料理だったんだけど、値段の割には料理が多かったですわ。穴場の店でした。皆さんから色々プレゼントを頂きました。本当にありがとうございました。プレゼントを頂いた時点で、涙腺がやばくて、泣きそうになりましたわ。最後はジョシュの挨拶で締めくくりだったんだけど、それを聞いていたら、一気に涙が。。。やはり泣いてしまいました。やや男泣きでしたが。。。
ジョシュが「バーベキューしたり、飲み会したり、色々ありがとうございました。皆さんは家族みたいな存在です、もしアメリカにくる事があれば、僕の家族も紹介する」って言ってました。
楽しい時間を本当にありがとうございました。

Tonight, we just got done with Josh's going away party in Shinjuku. We went to a place that had yakitori (chicken skewers) and nabe (Japanese stew). It was a very low price for the amount of food that we had. Everyone was shocked. Thank you everyone for the thoughtful gifts, and the wonderful time spent together. You are like family. We will keep in touch and we will see you again in the near future. If you happen to visit us in the states, we will enjoy a BBQ together and I will introduce you to my family. Just think, ONE BIG EXTENDED FAMILY. Love from Takako & I and we had a great time. Thank you very much. See you soon!

月島 Monja

月島に「もんじゃ」を食べに行ってきました。いつもは私が焼く係りなんだけど、今回はタクエモンがいたから、全部タクエモンが焼いてくれましたわ。楽チンだわ。もんじゃにお好み焼き、焼きそば、で、しめくくりは「あんこイチゴ巻き」実はこの一品は凄くおいしいのよ。
もんじゃを食べた後は、サチと二人で六本木に。昨日も沢山の人だったわ。

Last night we went to Tsukishima and ate monja. We always go to the same shop named Oshio. This time we double dated with Sachi & Takuemon. Taku prepared the meals this time. He did a great job, Takako said. Normally Takako prepares the food but she took a break this time. We also shared okonomiyaki and finally anko-ichigomaki. It is a dessert made with anko, strawberries and vanilla ice cream wrapped up in a crepe. After that, Takako & Sachi went to Roppongi to hang out as Josh & Taku returned home.

品川 Lunch

久々に品川にランチに行ってきました。ジョシュにとって品川でランチするのは今日が最後かな。楽しい時間を過ごせました、ありがとうです。
品川でランチした後、「ボーン・アルティメイタム」を見に行ってきました。続編の映画とかってさ、前回のどんな感じで終わったのかとか忘れちゃうわ。それが１年前とかになるとさ。でもね見ていくうちになんとなく話を思い出してきたけど、今回はカメラ割が凄かった、早すぎて途中分からなかったわ。
そーいや今回、見にきていた人、おじいちゃんが多かったわ。マット・ディモンのファン層は幅が広いわ。

Monday, we went to Shinagawa for lunch with some of Takako ex-coworkers. It was the last lunch that Josh will eat in Shinagawa. We had a great time. After lunch, we went to see the movie 'The Bourne Ultimatum'. Takako forgot the story because she had watched both the previous in the series a couple of years ago. The third was very good and it kept you on the edge of your seat. She stated that it was the first time she had seen so many older men (60+) to watch a movie. They must've been fans of Matt Damon. One more thing, Takako thinks that our friend Dan Davis looks like Matt Damon. You be the judge of the pic comparisons.

新宿 Lunch

剣士労夫妻とランチしました。剣士労とはかれこれ１０年以上の付き合いになりますわ。前は一緒にスノボードに行ったりバーベキューをしたりしましたわ。
実は私より年上なんだけど、何故か弟みたいな存在。剣士労っていう名前もあだ名で、私がつけたんだけど何でこのあだ名をつけたのか、またもや不明。
剣士労とジョシュはゲーム話や車の話で盛り上がってました。実は剣士労も黄色が好きで、ステップワゴンを黄色に、ここにもいたわ、ヒヨコカーが。沢山、お話して楽しかったわ。
最後に、日本のお土産という事で、名前入りのお箸を頂きました。ありがとう。またご飯食べに行きましょう。
剣士労夫妻と別れた後、新宿御苑に散策に行きました。

On Sunday, we met 'Ken-shiro' and his wife Na-chan for lunch in Shinjuku. Takako met him about 10 years ago and they used to go snowboarding and to BBQ's together. He is older than Takako however, she feels that he is just another younger brother. She doesn't know why she gave him that nickname. The guys were busy talking about cars and video games. They both like the color yellow. Josh's Skyline was and Ken-shiro's Stepwgn has been repainted yellow. Takako says that they must love baby chickens. We had a GREAT time chatting, thank you very much for the personalized chopsticks. See you soon!

Once finished with lunch, Takako & I continued to Shinjuku-Gyoen and snapped a few more pics.

Party, Party!

久々に地元の友達に会いました。久々だったのと話が盛り上がり沢山飲んでしまいました。いい気分のまま六本木に向かい、サチとかと合流して朝まで、何故か膝が痛くて、あまり踊れなかったわ。
ジョシュは、英語の生徒さん達が送別会を開いてくれてそれに行ってました。ジョシュはこの３年半、週一回のペースで、英語を教えてました。皆、年配の方なんだけど、英語ペラペラ、羨ましいわ。

This past Saturday night Josh had his farewell party given by the English class he taught for about 3 1/2 years in Fussa. They ate at an Izakaya and later went to Karaoke. He was given many great going-away gifts from the class. He has about a week left of work and then ROD. Takako partied in Roppongi with some of her 'small' friends until the early morning hours. It was a great time to party, party (as Takako says).

Kyoto (part 3)

２日目はトロッコ電車に乗りました。帰りは保津川下り。１６キロの渓流を船に乗って２時間かけて嵐山まで下ったわ。嵐山では天龍寺を散策。庭が綺麗だね。「ザ・日本」って感じだわ。夕方には京都駅に着いて２３時までには自宅に帰ったわ。そう、この期間、デービスと黒はペットホテルに泊まりました。前回、１泊練習したペットホテルという事でだいぶ慣れたみたいだわ。デービスは前回お泊まりした時は血尿がでたんだけど、今回は大丈夫だったわ。

The second day of our Kyoto trip was spent taking the Sagano Tram (romantic train) to Kameoka. We boarded a small boat for about 16 km (2 hours) on Kyoto's scenic Hozugawa river near Arashiyama. We then walked to Tenryuji, a beautiful landscape garden and temple in Arashiyama. After the garden tour, we took some pictures near the Togetsukyo Bridge and then it was time to return to Kyoto station to hop the Shinkansen on our journey back to Tokyo. One more thing I forgot to mention about the Shinkansen. If you haven't ridden on one, the closest sensation is being on an airplane, zipping down the runway but never taking off. It was a wonderful trip. We arrived home about 10:30pm and went to bed. We needed to pick up Day-bis & Kuro the next morning at the pet hotel. We were told that they did a great job as their second time!

Kyoto (part 2)

一日目の夜は洋介に会いました。洋介とはオーストラリアで知り合ったんだけど、一緒にスキューバしたり、飲んだり、とても楽しい時間を過ごしましたわ。私は数ヶ月で日本に帰国したけど、洋介はオーストラリアを一周してその後、タイからインド、イラン、トルコまで行ったんだって（その他にも色々、国を経由しているんだろうけど）。そうそう、洋介は日本に帰国してから、京都から東京まで自転車できたんだよ、片道４５０キロだって。また挑戦して欲しいものだわ。
洋介とジョシュの映画の好みが似ているみたいで二人して「スターウォーズ」のテーマ曲、居酒屋で歌ってたわ。
話が盛り上がって、気がついたら４時間経過してたわ。本当はもっとお話したかったけど、平日と言う事で渋々帰りました、残念。
また飲みに行きましょう。

Once completed with the first day, a mini tour of Kyoto, we met Yousuke. Takako met him in Australia, where they went scuba diving and general hanging out. After Takako returned to Japan, Yousuke toured portions of the world. He travelled around the entire continent of Australia, Thailand, India, Iran and Turkey then returned to Kyoto. He then rode his bicycle from Kyoto to Tokyo, just because he could. (About 280 miles.) He now lives in Osaka but he came to Kyoto to meet us. We went to an Izakaya, just north of Kyoto station. We ended up chatting about movies and realized that he & Josh share the same interest in movies. (Humming the theme from Star Wars.) We wish we could've enjoyed each others company for a while longer, but since it was a weekday, he needed to get ready for work the next day. We thoroughly enjoyed the visit. See you soon!

Kyoto (part 1)

母とジョシュと京都に一泊二日で行ってきました。ジョシュは初めての新幹線で嬉しそうでしたわ。一日目は、金閣寺に行きました。久々に金閣寺をみたけどやはり綺麗だね。で、その後は清水寺、そして伏見稲荷大社。おっと「任天堂」にも行きました。でもね、この任天堂ビルってのが初期のビルなのよ。今は閉鎖されていて任天堂のホームページにも住所がのってない、インターネットで事前に調べたから住所は分かったけど、任天堂のファンじゃなかったら初期のビルがあるなんて分からないよね。当たり前だけどだーれも観光客なんかいなかったわ。何より、ジョシュがとても嬉しそうでよかったわ、だってジョシュは「京都＝金閣寺、京都＝任天堂」って思っているみたいだしね。そうそう、京都市内を走っている車って怖いよね。京都の街って「碁盤の目」でしょう、直線だから皆スピード出す出す、考えてみたら東京とかって狭い道やカーブがあるからスピードを抑えたりするけど京都、直線系だものね。
雨女も発揮できずにかなり暑かったわ。

Just yesterday, 7 November, Hideko, Takako & I boarded a Shinkansen (N700 series), bound for Kyoto. Japan's newest 'bullet-train' has a maximum speed of about 186 mph (300 kph). A little over two hours later, we checked into the hotel and hopped on a tour bus headed for Kinkaku-ji, 'The Golden Pavilion'. This temple is Kyoto's most famous & possibly the most famous in Japan. From there we hailed a cab, to travel towards Kiyomizu-dera. Perched above eastern Kyoto on a mountainside, it is one of Kyoto's most known sites. A little while later, we began walking downhill to try and find Nintendo's first HQ. We found it with some help of a cab driver. Started in 1889, they produced playing cards known as hanafuda cards (flower cards). Josh's wish was fulfilled and then it was off to Fushimi Inari-taisha. The many donated torii gates added to the scenery for the temples. We then headed back to the hotel to catch a quick rest before grabbing a bite to eat later that night.

Showa Kinen Koen

足が痛い、、、この前、昭和記念公園に行った時に「二人乗り自転車」を見かけ気になっていたので、乗ってきました。タイヤが他の自転車に比べて小さいからかなりこがないといけないんだけどね。今日も天気がよくて自転車に乗っていて凄い気持ちよかったわ。

Takako's feet hurt. Earlier today, we visited the park once again but without Day-bis & Kuro. Takako noticed last time they had tandem bicycles to rent and had wanted to try it. The wheels were very small on the bicycles built for two and therefore requiring, EXTRA pedaling. Other than that, it was another great day for getting out, enjoying the terrific autumn weather.

Near Yokosuka

専門学校の時の友人に会いに横須賀に行ってきました。フカチと久美に会うのは１年ぶりだわ。しかもフカチの旦那に会うのはフカチの結婚式以来だからかなり久々。フカチも久美も既に２児の母だわ。今日は４人も子供がいてとてもにぎやかだったわ。結婚して子供ができると昔みたいに会う機会が少なくなってきちゃうけど、また時間を作って会いましょう。横須賀海軍カレーとうなぎパイ、ありがとうね。
で、夜はアツシがやっているお店に坂谷さんと愛ちゃんと行ってきました。３人に会うのもかなり久しぶりなんだなぁ。でも変わってなかったわ。坂谷さんには手作りのスコーンを頂いたわ、ごちそうさまだわ。ありがとうね。
今日一日、楽しい時間を過ごせたわ、ありがとうだわ。また会いましょう。

We just arrived home from meeting some of Takako's Dental Tech School friends that live near Yokosuka. Two of them, Fukachi & Kumi, attended our wedding last December in Tokyo. Takako last met Fukachi's husband about five years ago at their wedding. Both of her friends already have two kids each. We were able to meet all four kids. It was very lively, to say the least. All of our lives are busy with family beginnings, although we will meet each other in the near future. Thanks for the gifts.
After that, we met Sakatani-san & Ai-chan at Atsushi's bar. It has been a long time since Takako has seen them also. Takako said that they hadn't changed much in about 13 years. Thanks to Sakatani-san for the scones. We had a very good time chatting with old friends. We look forward to seeing you again!

Gyu-Kaku

YO-YO-YOとジュンコさんと牛角に行ってきました。牛角はお店によって食べ放題コースがあるのです。だからってわけじゃないけど沢山食べたわ。満腹太郎だわ。そうそうなんでYO-YO-YOっていうのかと言うと、YO-YO-YOは前にクラブでMCをやっていたのです。でもって去年の東京の私達の結婚披露パーティの時には、司会をお願いしました。打ち合わせなど時間をさいてくれてありがとうでしたわ。よいパーティをあげられる事ができましたわ。感謝感謝。

We just arrived home from Gyu-kaku's all-you-can-eat course. We went out to eat with Shuki & Junko. We also say Shuki's name is Yo-Yo-Yo due to the fact that he was an MC at a hip-hop club for a while and he was also the MC at our Tokyo wedding. Junko works now with Josh in Customer Service. We had a great time and are stuffed. Thanks!

Relaxing Day Spa

勝浦にあるテルムマランパシフィークに母と行ってきました。前々から気になっていた場所で、一度は行ってみたかったの。調べたら東京駅から直行バスが出ててさ、かなりラクチンポンだったわ。海水の浮力とジェットの水流があるプールがあるんだけど、とにかく気持ちよかったわ。また行ってみたい場所だわ。
行きも帰りもアクアラインを通ったんだけど、相変わらず空いている道路だわ。

Yesterday, Takako & Hideko travelled to Thermes Marins Du Pacifique. It is a 'thalassotherapy' spa. It is greek for 'sea' therapy. They boarded a non-stop bus from Tokyo train station and went through the Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line. Takako stated that it was very refreshing. Boy, do they enjoy the one-day bus tours.

Showa Kinen Koen

今日は暑かった。１０月も終わりなのに半袖で大丈夫なんて、異常気象だわ。さて、コスモスが見頃という事なので立川にある昭和記念公園に行ってきました。暑かったよ。日差しが強い。デービスと黒はいつも以上にバテバテ気味。デービスなんて途中で歩くの辞めちゃうんだもの。立川の昭和記念公園はずっと昔、米軍の基地があった場所なの。今は福生に移動したけど。だから広い、半端なく広いのよね。横田もそのうち、日本へ返還されちゃうのかな？んーーどうなんだ？石原都知事よ。あー１０月も終わっちゃうよ。
そーいや、ジョシュの弟がお誕生日でしたわ。おめでとう、ジェラード。

It was a hot day today, at the end of October and we could wear t-shirts. Quite the abnormal weather?!? Together with Day-bis & Kuro, we visited Showa Kinen Park near Tachikawa and the cosmos flowers were in bloom. Due to hot weather, our little boys became overheated quite quickly. After a while, Day-bis just wanted to lay down anywhere to rest. Before it became a park, it was Tachikawa Air Base (old Yokota Air Base locale). Now it is a beautiful park. I wonder what will become of Yokota in the future?

Also, we would like to formally say, "Happy belated Birthday, Jared!" How's 31 feel?

Mac OSX Leopard

台風がきているみたいですが、今日はMac OSXの発売日です。うちのパソコンはMacなので、早速買いに行きました。私はパソコン周りの事はよくわからないけど、多分、いい感じなんだと思う。うちのパソコンと母のパソコンをアップデートする予定です。勿論、ジョシュが。ジョシュの話によると、ビデオカメラなど使用しながらデスクトップを共用できるらしいです、全く、想像がつかないけど。
ってか１０月も終わりに近づいているわ。。

Today, we bought Mac OSX Leopard at Bic Camera in Tachikawa. It is the newest Mac Operating System (OS) with over 300 new features. We needed to wait until 6pm (JST) until it went on sale. With the yen rate and Bic Camera points, we paid a little over $100 for the new OS. We also received a medium-sized t-shirt with the Mac OSX logo on the front. We will be updating our Mac tonight and Kabuchan's tomorrow.

今日はジョシュとつき合って３年半ですわ。さて、シュラスコの食べ放題にジョシュと母と行ってきました。席までお肉を運んでくれるんだけど、結構、レア系の肉でした。砂肝系の肉が運ばれてきたんだけど、食べたらなんか固いのよね。店の人に聞いたら鳥の心臓の肉だって。心臓って固いのね。でも、パイナップルを焼いたやつが美味しかった。甘くてね。今度、家でパイナップルを焼いてみようと思いますわ。
その後、前々から気になっていた「マッスルパーク」に行ってきました。運動能力を計るアトラクションがあるんだけど結構、難しいのよ。バランスとか体内時計とか。でもいい汗かきましたわ。
そうそう、うちの母がスカイラインのミニカーを探してきてくれてジョシュにプレゼントしてました。私もスカイラインのミニカー（イエロー）探したんだけど、見つからなかった。ジョシュ、嬉しそうでしたわ。やはりスカイライン、好きなのね。。。

Today, we celebrated our 3.5 year anniversary of being together with Hideko at an all-you-can-eat Brazilian buffet in Omotesandou. They would bring 'churrasco' right to the table. For all of you that don't know what churrasco is, it is like a very large shish kebab that the servers slice for you at the table. Takako thought that the meat was quite rare, still bleeding. Some types of kebabs were: pepper steak, roast beef, chicken hearts, chicken legs, sausage & Takako's favorite, pineapple. After lunch, Takako & I continued on to O'Daiba's Muscle Park while Hideko visited an art museum. Takako has wanted to try some of the 'strength' activities. The activities measure agility, balance, coordination, strength, etc. They look easy to do on TV but they are quite difficult at times. Hideko bought two toy cars for Josh. Since his real Skyline has been sold, he now has toys that will remind him of the fun times driving around in Tokyo.

隠れがレストランに行ってきましたってのは冗談で、マーさん、イー姉さん宅に行ってきました。
お家、綺麗でした。モダンっていうのかしら。とにかくオシャレなのよ家具とかもオーダメイドとからしいし、照明とかも素敵だったの。レストラン風だったわ。で、ご飯ごちそうになったのよ。とにかく美味しかった。レストラン開けばいいのにって思うくらいさ。出してくれた料理の作り方とか教わったんだけど、お酒が入っているせいか、全く、耳に入ってこなかった。ご飯も美味しいんだけど、マーさんイー姉さんの話と掛け合い？が面白かった。マーさんとは仕事場が昔、一緒だったんだけど、とにかく物真似がうまいの。物真似っても一緒に働いている人の物真似だから、他の人には分からないんだけど、でも私にはかなりツボに入ってしまうのよね。仕事で辛い事があってもその物真似見ちゃうと、辛い事が忘れるのよね。マーさんとは「女同士のような男同士」の関係かな。
美味しい料理ごちそうさまでした。でもってゴッツ楽しい時間を過ごせましたわ。ありがとう。また３年後にお邪魔しちゃうわよ。

Yesterday, we went to a 'hidden restaurant'. Not really but it was Maa-san + Ii-san's house. Their house is really nice. Decorated in a 'modern' motif, kinda like a restaurant. The cabinets were all made-to-order. They prepared some gourmet food for us, thus reinforcing the restaurant theme. It was delicious. They must've taken culinary arts courses because it looked good also (SEE above). Maa-san told Takako of some recipes, although she stated that since she was also having champagne, she may not remember. Maa-san was a coworker of Takako a couple of years ago. He is very good at mimicking other coworkers from the time. Takako kept stating 'omoshiroi=entertaining, funny'. While they worked together, if Takako was feeling down or stressed out, he may throw out a routine and she would leave her worries behind. He is like a 'girlfriend' as in they get along like girlfriends, but since he is a guy, he is also like a brother. Thank you for the delicious gourmet meal. We had a great time and Takako enjoyed the reminiscing about passed events. We will see you again in about three years.

久々にサチと踊りに行ってきました。でもまた雨。あー今回もしっかり雨女を発揮してしまいました。しかも寒かった。。。
写真を撮ってもらったんだけど、私の顔、半分しか写ってないし、一体どんなピントの合わせ方なのかしら。
そうそう、面白い人がいてね、額と額をあわせながら踊ってたので、真似してみました。
私がサチとパーティパーティしている頃、、ジョシュはお家で、デービスと黒とパーティパーティしていたそうです。

Last night, it was raining once again. It is probably because Takako is the "Rain-woman". Takako & Sachi partied in Roppongi, although the guy that took one of the pics, mistimed the shutter and missed part of Takako's head. Also, in the above picture, they were mocking some guys in the club by dancing with their foreheads touching. Josh stayed home and 'partied' with Day-bis & Kuro. It was a great night.

えー実は再来週から人間のデービスに会いに韓国に行く予定でした、うちの犬の名前もデービスですが。
韓国に行っている間、ペットホテルにデービスと黒を預ける予定だったのでその前に練習もかねて１日だけペットホテルにデービスと黒を預けました。最近は、ペットホテルにもウェブカメラってのがあってパソコンからも携帯からも犬の状態が分かるようになっているんだけど、時間があれば私はウェブカメラで観察。でもね、気になっちゃって、ご飯食べてるかなとかちゃんとお昼寝しているかなとかさ。案の定、デービス、ご飯を食べない、うちは食べてよしと言うまで食べてはいけないしつけをしていて、デービスはそのかけ声がないから食べない。黒はと言うと、おかまいなしに食べてた。韓国には凄く行きたいし人間のデービスにも会いたいんだけど、横田ベースから韓国に行く為、帰りの飛行機が韓国から横田ベースにいつ飛ぶかわからないらしい、帰りが分かっていて預けるのと分からないで預けるのは気分的にも違うので、今回は、韓国行きを断念しました。人間のデービスごめんね、アメリカで会いましょう。犬のデービスは家に帰ってきた途端、すこぶる元気になりました。
そうそう、自分達のフィギアを作ってもらいました。

We were thinking of heading off for Korea on a short trip to visit Dan Davis, one of Josh's earlier troops. The only problem was, Day-bis & Kuro. We needed at least a 'one-day training' for them at a pet-hotel to see how they react to being with others while we may be gone. The pet-hotel we chose had web-camera's so that we could see them at anytime. Takako was ALWAYS checking the site, worrying about them eating meals, taking naps and other basic worries. She noticed that Day-bis wouldn't eat because we have trained him well to only eat after we say the magic word, "Yo-sh". The pet-hotel attendants didn't know it, so he was just waiting. Takako ended up calling them and he finally had his dinner. We would've liked to visit Korea, however with the military 'hops', we never know when we may be able to make it back. We have a lot of out-processing to accomplish in addition. Davis, we will see you soon! Today we picked the little boys up from the pet-hotel and they are just bundles of energy. They are fine.

日本離れる事が現実的になってきてしまい、最近、めっきりヘコみ気味で涙目です。去年の１２月の終わりにジョシュに「アメリカに移動になった」って聞かされてから、それなりに心の準備をしてきたんだけど、この間、「日本を離れるまでに何をしなきゃいけない」など整理してたら、一気に現実的になってしまい、涙が止まりません。でも私が泣けば泣く程、ジョシュが「ごめんね、日本にいられなくなって」と悲しい顔で言うの、それが更に辛い。当たり前だけど軍の人と結婚したら勤務地が数年毎に変わる事は分かっていたし、旦那について行くのは嫁のつとめだしね。でもやはり、すぐに親や友達に会えない事が一番辛い。同じ日本にいて、会えないのと、アメリカと日本で会えないのは気分的にちょっと違うんだよね。出発まで、日本を満喫しなくては。
でもって成田空港からの出発ではなくなり横田ベースからの出発になりました。成田空港でご飯食べたかったなぁ。。。
ちなみに写真のデービス、この間、母に犬用のレインコートを買ってもらい、レインコートの帽子をかぶっている写真です。

久々にお花を見に行ってきました。バラはまだ全開じゃなかったけど、心癒されるわ。こーみえて実はお花とか木とか大好きなんですよ。今日行った所は「旧古河庭園」で、実は、新婚旅行で観光した場所に似てました。その後、水上バスに乗る為、浅草に行きました。母が最後に水上バスに乗ったのが、私が小学校の時以来という事だったので、久々に。軽い東京観光でした。浅草から日の出桟橋、で、お台場まで行きました。夕日きれいでした。さて、井上さん、バラはまだ全開ではなかったですけど、綺麗な庭園でした。お時間があれば是非、行ってみてくださいな。

Today, we met with Kabu-chan at Shinjuku bound for Komagome station. Once we arrived at the end station, we walked for about 15 minutes towards Kyu furu kawa tei en. The property was originally the location of a notable person from the Meiji Period, Mutsu Munemitsu. The Meiji Period was from 23 October 1868 to 30 July 1912. The whole property was inaugurated as a park April 30, 1956. The Western-style residence has been converted into an Otani Art Museum. Much of the property is now used as both Western-style and Japanese gardens. Most notable for roses and azaleas near the museum. Then we hopped the next subway bound for Asakusa to board the next ferry enroute to O'Daiba. Hideko hadn't been on a ferry or been to O'Daiba in a long time. The daylight, turned to dusk while we were near Rainbow Bridge. Walked around O'Daiba's Palette Town for a while.

えーおタカさんのお誕生日会でした。お誕生日おめでとう、おタカさん。おタカさんに初めて会ったのは、いつだっけか？忘れてもうたわ。今日も私は、相変わらず沢山食べて、飲んでお話して、あっとゆうまに２３時だった。今日は私絶好調で、お酒が進んでしまいましたわ。福生まで帰らなきゃいけないので、ジョシュと二人で先に帰りました。あー福生って遠いよねぇ。毎回、思ってしまうわ。どこでもドアが欲しい。ってか私、髪の毛久々にばっさり切りました。２０センチくらいかな。本当はショートにしたかったけど、顔がデカイ今、ショートにしたら、もっと顔の大きさが目立ってしまうので辞めました。あー残念。。。

Today was Otaka-san's birthday. Takako can't remember the first time that they met. Tonight we ate and drank in Oimachi at a small place. Takako was surprised how the time flew. Before we knew it, it was time for us to part to head back towards Fussa. We arrived back home at about 12:45am.
Takako also is 'trying' a short hair style. So far the hair stylist took off almost 8 inches! She has been thinking of having a short hairstyle when we leave Tokyo.

一気に疲れがどっとでてしまってますが、昨日、引っ越し作業が終わりました。先に荷物をアメリカに船便で送るという事で。それにしても引っ越し業者さんの手際の良さにはアッパレだわ。うちは、結構荷物が多くて、キングサイズのベットが１つ、シングルベットが１つ、ソファに食器棚、冷蔵庫、テレビ、後、沢山の食器（殆ど使わずに送ってしまいました）、後はその他もろもろ。朝８時から業者さんがきて終わったのが６時頃。見てるだけで大変そうでした。ベットとか送ってしまった為、ベースからベットとか冷蔵庫など借りました。でも届くのが今日の朝。そう、昨夜は、ジョシュとじゅうたんの上で寝ました。おかげで風邪ひいたわ。そうそうジョシュの車、売りに出して３週間ぐらいがたったのかな。ベースに住んでいる人から連絡があったんだけど、ジョシュが思っていた金額を提示してこなかったから、思い切って日本の中古車に問い合わせしました。早速何社からも連絡があり、昨日、２社に査定してもらいました。そのうち１社がジョシュが売りたかった金額を提示した為、そこに決めました。来週末には車を手放すので、新たに車を買う事にしました。でも安い車を購入する予定。後２ヶ月だからさ。ってわけでジョシュのヒヨコカーともおさらばだわ。

Yesterday our household goods were picked up. Takako was surprised at the speed of the packers. We have a lot of stuff (king size bed, fridge, single bed, china cabinet, plasma tv, etc.). We also have many dishes that we don't even use! They arrived here at about 8am and finished about 5-6pm. Takako thought that it looked like difficult work. Last night we slept on the carpet near Day-bis & Kuro, since we had to wait for FMO to be delivered today (with temporary furniture).

On another note, since American's on-base don't want to spend over $2K for a vehicle that they may only have for 2-4 yrs, and we had only gotten one serious offer for my car, we turned to Japanese used car dealers. Takako had contacted some companies and two 'agents' showed up to appraise my car. We went with the higher of the two and it looks like my R34 Yellow Skyline GT-T is no more after sometime next week. Since we still have a couple of months left, we will need a vehicle to get around in so I will turn to one of those 'cheap' cars to last us. Takako says, "Good-bye baby chicken car." (Due to its color.)

お誕生日会とバーベキューをベースでやりました。ってか久々に雨女復帰。あー昨日までの暑さと天気のよさはどこへ。。。大量にお酒買ったのに、涼しくて皆、お酒が進まない。しかも今回は日本人だけでバーベキューって事で食べ物も飲み物も思ってた以上に減らなかったわ。いつもはジョシュの仕事仲間とやるんだけど、今回は日本人だけでしんみりと。でも楽しかったわ。ってか毎回楽しいんだけどね。
でもって今日は私の運転初お披露目、かなりテンパッタけどね、だって公道走るの初めてだし、でも乗っている人のほうがもっと怖かったハズ。。。。でも大丈夫、安全運転のハズだから。。。かなり皆に助けられたけど。。
バーベキューの後は皆で、ボウリングをしたわ。久々のボウリング、腕が痛いわ。ってか毎回思うんだけど、大将のスピンしながら投げるやりかた、毎回、凄いなって思っちゃう。だってスルスルスルってスピンするのよ。ってな感じで次回は１１月だわよん。

Today we celebrated three birthday's with a BBQ on base. Josh, Taku & Sam. It started out rainy although it happened to turn out fine. Yesterday was a very hot day so Takako was wondering where that weather was today? She believes that she is a "rainy weather girl". (Anytime we celebrate a special occasion with Takako, it rains.) Takako wanted to show her friends that she is a 'safety driver' and with that, she gave them a quick tour of the base. Josh & Takako even picked the crew up and dropped them off at Fussa train station. It was Takako's first time driving off base. With the cool weather today and only some of our Japanese friends, they didn't drink much in terms of alcohol. They each left with some drinks in AAFES bags. After the BBQ, we bowled two games at Tomodachi Lanes. Takako wants to learn how to put spin on the ball just as Taishou did. Next meeting will be in November. All in all, everyone enjoyed the time spent together.

さて、一ヶ月ぶりに品川に行ってきました。以前、一緒に仕事をしていた人が今日で現場から離れるという事で、送別ランチを。
皆変わらず元気で良かったわ。「おつかれちゃん」は変わらず、可愛いかったわ。ポン兄は、パツンパツンのスーツだったけど。。
でもね、私、少し痩せたんだけど、「太った？」「でかくなった？』って言われたわ、一体これは、どーゆう事なのかしら。。確かに、６末から比べたら痩せたのよ、体脂肪も減ってるのよ。でもビリーをやっているせいか、変にでかくなってきたのかしら。んーー困るわ。このままだとプロレスラー路線になってしまう。うっ。来月からはホットヨガをまたやる予定。日本を離れるまでには、、なんとか。
そーいや、ベースで運転免許とったんだけど、またネブラスカ州に行って、筆記テストと実技テストしなきゃいけないみたい。。んーーまた勉強か。。辛いわ。

Takako visited Shinagawa again today. It's been about a month since we last went there. Some of her co-workers are finishing their tenure. Otsukare-chan is still cute. She noticed that Pon looked a bit larger due to his suit being a couple of sizes too small. Some of her co-workers thought that Takako has gained a little weight. She stated that she was still exercising with Billy B. although she doesn't want to grow into a professional wrestler. She will start Hot Yoga again in October.
Also, since she has received her drivers license through the on-base course, she still will need to take a couple more exams in Nebraska prior to getting her first, Nebraska license. She really doesn't want to study again.

やったー。免許取得ですわ。約２ヶ月、長かったな。これで私も運転できますわ。うは。でも、本格的に運転するのはアメリカに行ってからだわ。日本の道路は運転しない予定。だって、日本の道路って、混み混みじゃない？危ないわ。その点、ベースは空いていて好きだわ。オマハも空き空きだといいな。ってか今日の写真も私、でかいわ。。遠近法使えず終わった。。。

Takako graduated from her AAA drivers school tonight. I will be checking on what she needs to do now to get her stateside license.

さて、風鈴作りに行ってきました。アメリカに行くので日本の伝統的なものをジョシュの家族に持って帰ろうと思って、まぁ、持ち帰る時期がクリスマス時期だけど、風鈴はいつ鳴らしてもなごむからね。チーンチーン。
風鈴屋さんに無理を言って今日、二人合わせて８個作らせてもらいました。ジョシュの家族とうちの分、でもってカブちゃんの分をね。
吹く作業は手伝ってもらいながらの作成、問題は絵だった。当たり前だけど内側から絵を書かなきゃいけないのよね。それが難しかったわ。お手本を見ると簡単そうに見えるんだけど、いざやるとこれが難しい。私は殆ど、お花ばかりの絵になっちゃったわ。ジョシュ画伯は、日の丸、日本、桜、富士山、バナナ、イチゴ、そしてデービスと黒の絵を。デービスと黒の絵がこれまた可愛いんだわ。２時間半もかかってしまったわ。でも、今日、全部作れて良かったわ。その後、前々から欲しかった中華鍋とセイロを見に、合羽橋に。色々みたんだけど、結局、中華鍋は買わず、セイロとステーキプレートを買って帰宅。もうすぐ引っ越しだから明日はいるものといらないものを分けなきゃ。

Today, we crafted 'wind bells'. At first the glass blowing was difficult. The shop owner helped us once he realized we couldn't make a perfect bell on our own. Then we moved onto the painting of the bells. He (shop owner) showed us how to paint the bells. He made it look easy. We had a very difficult time trying to paint inside of the glass bells. Takako painted flowers on her bells and Josh painted Mt. Fuji and other miscellaneous items, including Day-bis & Kuro. The whole process lasted about 2 hours. After that, we travelled to Kappa-bashi since Takako wanted to look for a Wok and a bamboo steamer. We got the steamer and also made other various purchases. We were exhausted by the end of the day. Tomorrow we will decide what will get shipped in our Household Goods in October and what will be saved for the November Unaccompanied Baggage shipment.

暑さが戻ってしまいましたが１８年ぶりに中学の同級生に会いました。実は、私、中学１年生の終わりに転校してしまったので１年間だけの同級生でしたが、まさか再会できるとは思ってもみなかった。しかも１８年ぶりに。１８年っていったら凄い歳月だよね。実は彼女とは同じクラスだったの。運動神経がよくてサバサバしていて、優しい子だなっていう印象が残っているんだよねー。うん。でもってもう１人、同級生も再会の場にいたんだけど、私、彼の事、全く記憶にないの、まぁ、違うクラスだったってのもあるんだけどね。でも今日、初めて？お話して、凄い感じのいい人だったわ。うん。腕の毛が、モシャモシャしてた。モシャモシャ。
彼女らと別れた後に、東京タワーに行ったのってか凄い人だったわ。ビックリ。展望台に行くのに長蛇の列だわ。展望台に行くのを諦めて、水道橋に向かったの。サンダードルフィンに乗るために。でもやはりそこも凄い長蛇の列。でも久々に乗りたかったかったから１時間待ったわ。凄い楽しかったーまた乗りたいわ。ってか今日、写真撮ったんだけど、いつもの遠近法を忘れてしまったわ。今日は久々に顔の大きさが、、、全面に、、、ってか窪さん顔、小さすぎよ。ちなみに中学校の近くにも行ったので写真撮りましたわー

Today we met a long time ago classmate of Takako near Hamamatsucho. Takako calls her Kubo-san. They hadn't seen each other in about 18 years! She just remembered her as being the 'active' type. Always into sports, she was always kind, etc... We also met another guy and Takako stated she didn't even remember him. 'First impression' was good. After the meeting we went to Tokyo Tower, but too many people. We then walked down near her junior high school to hop a subway bound for Tokyo Dome City to ride Thunder Dolphin. It was a great day to see old classmates and enjoy the good weather in Downtown Tokyo, in the middle of September.

品川にある食べ放題のお店「ハプナ」に行ってきました。本当はランチに行きたかったんだけど、予約が全くとれない。。。競争率激しいんだよね。だから夜のバイキングに行ってきました。凄い綺麗だったよ。まぁ、値段もバイキングにしては高いんだけどさ。でも和洋中がそろっているし、デザートも沢山あったわ。カニもね。カニ美味しかったわ。でも野菜が好きな私は、野菜ばかり食べてしまったわ。あんま食べ放題に行った意味がないんだけどね。野菜は美味しいよねぇーそーいやパンフレットにかいてある英語の文章、変なんだよね。Smiledって書いてあるんだけど、この文章にはSmileでいいんだよね、んーー。

Tonight, we (Hideko, Takako & I) went to an all-you-can eat buffet located in the Shinagawa Prince Hotel. It was named 'Hapuna'. It was a little pricey, but well worth the money (about $50 per person). We wanted to get the reservation for the lunch-time buffet (cheaper) but the schedule was full through November and into December. Can you imagine a buffet that you need to make reservations for? It was nothing but gourmet food from all around the world, including dessert. They had very delicious food! (You may notice the 'motto' in the center of the pic has weird English. If only they had left off the last 'd'.)

ジョシュの友達の熊ちゃんがハワイから２週間だけ仕事の関係で東京にきました。ジョシュと熊ちゃんは１１年前に沖縄で知り合ったそうです。私が熊ちゃんに初めて会ったのは２年前、ジョシュと一緒にハワイ旅行に行った時。毎日、熊ちゃんづくしでした（笑）一瞬、熊ちゃんにジョシュをとられた気分でした。だって毎朝９時にホテルに迎えにくるんだもの。フヌー。でも熊ちゃんがハワイを案内してくれたおかげで普通の観光では味わえない観光が出来ました。感謝だわ。

Josh's friend, Dave Thelen is in Tokyo! He will be here for two weeks. Josh & Dave have been friends for 11 years dating back to the Okinawa days. The last time they saw each other was when Josh & Takako went to Hawaii back in 2005. Takako didn't care that, everyday Dave would pick them up at 9am at the hotel to spend the day. She wanted to spend some relaxing time with her then boyfriend, Josh. She did however enjoy the time that was spent with Dave. They got to see a lot of the island of Oahu in just the limited time they had. Thanks for visiting us here in Tokyo, Kuma!

台風接近中ですが。本日は、ジョシュのお誕生日です。３３歳になりました。早いものです。知り合った時は、ジョシュは２９歳だったのに。既に３３歳。年々、ジィジィになりつつありますが。昨日は、うちのママが、ケーキとプレゼントを持って遊びにきました。
ケーキ美味しかったわーってか、月曜日からデービスの調子が悪くて、ってか血尿がでちゃって、昨日、急遽、ジョシュとママに犬の病院に連れて行ってもらいました。私は教習所だったので、行けませんでした。診断の結果、膀胱炎。犬にも膀胱炎があるとは。早くよくなって欲しいものだわ。ジィジィ、お誕生日おめでとうさん。へんてこな色のケーキは、アメリカのケーキ。凄い色のケーキだわ。
私には食べれないわ。。。

Typhoon #9 should be here later on tonight. It is Josh's Birthday today! 33 years old! My how fast time flies. Yesterday we had Hideko over, ate some dinner, had some Birthday cake, opened presents. This coming Saturday, we will bring Day-bis & Kuro to the vet. Kuro will be getting neutered. We are getting them ready for the big trip to Nebraska. Anyways, Happy Birthday Josh! The bottom most pic is just one piece of strawberry ice-cream cake that Junko, co-worker, bought for my birthday! Very delicious! Takako wouldn't try it because it is a 'weird' color. It must be sweet!

ヒュルリーヒュルリララー。さて本日、雨子（リンゴ）が宮崎に帰りました。私達は家の用事があった為、見送りに行けなかった。
ごめんね。でもまた９月の終わりに研修で東京にくるみたいだし、もしかしたら次の仕事も東京かもということなので、また会えるわね。
私が仕事を辞めてからは、あまり会う機会が少なくなってしまったけど、また一緒に遊びに行ったり、飲みに行きましょうねー。
さて、実家のパソコンをセットアップしてきました。ジョシュにきてもらって本当に助かった。私では、ちょっと分からない事がおおすぎたかも。ジョシュのパソコンから実家のパソコンにデービスと黒の写真を全部コピーしたんだけど、うちのママ、デービス大好きで、とても嬉しそうだったわ。きっと、メールとかそっちのけで、写真ばかりみちゃうんだろうなぁ。
あっ、ちなみに今回の写真は、先週、品川でランチした時のやつ。今回も顔がでかい私は、遠近法を使いました。オッパッピー。

Tonight, Ringo left to return to Miyazaki prefecture. We went to Shinagawa this passed Friday for lunch with her, Shiro & Anego. We can't believe how time flies, it's already September! We will see each other again & we will have some drinks together.

Today we went to Hideko's apartment to set up her Mac. It just needed to be connected to the internet & I transferred a lot of pictures of Day-bis, Kuro & other pics from our weddings in Minnesota & Tokyo. She can now see Day-bis & Kuro everyday (we enabled her desktop to change every minute) and her screensaver will start after 10 minutes with pics from our weddings.

さて、ジョシュの勤務先が決まりました。アメリカのネブラスカ州、オマハです。
最後まで、上司が「グアムに行ってください」って言葉を期待していたけど、アメリカ本土になってしまった。
日本滞在も後３ヶ月となり、そろそろ色々準備しなきゃいけないんだけど、まず始めに飛行機に乗る際に必要なゲージを買いました。
（デービスと黒の）只今、ゲージに慣れさせている最中だけど、デービスは中に入るんだけど、黒がまだまだ怖がって中に入らず、トレーニングが必要だわ。

でもって明日はうちのママの家に行きますわ。実はパソコンを先日プレゼントしました。私もそうなんだけど、いまいちセットアップがよく分からなくて、ジョシュにやってもらおうと思っていて。だが、果たしてうちの母、パソコンを使いこなせるのか、、不安だわ。

This passed week we purchased kennels for Day-bis & Kuro. We are getting the two of them ready for the trip in about three months. They need to be comfortable with the kennels so we need to train them to enjoy time spent in them. Otherwise they will be stressed during the long plane flight to Omaha.

Tomorrow we will go to Hideko's apartment to set up her new iMac and possibly set her up with an email account.

でもそんなの関係ねぇ、でもそんなの関係ねぇーオッパッピーと言っている芸人が最近気になってますが、
今日と明日は、横田の友好祭です。相変わらず凄い人です！ってか携帯が全然通じない、圏外になっちゃうし、メールは送れないし、困りました。なんとかミカチンと連絡がとれて、中で会えました。今日も細かったわ。ミカチンのお友達も細かった。写真は、遠近法を使いました。オッパッピー。
始めミカチンとかと並んで撮って見てみたら「うげっ、私デカッ！」と思い、遠近法にしました。でかいというか丸いというか、、、トホホ。でも体重は少しであるけど減っているんだ。ビリーズブートキャンプもそうだけど、次のビリーズブートキャンプエリートもやってます。そんな感じで８月も終わりつつあるわーブヒ

Today we went to the Friendship Festival on Yokota. Takako knew that Mika was going to be there, but she couldn't contact her for a while due to the DoCoMo cell switches being busy. There were so many people there. We finally contacted her and chatted for a short while. We took some pics together. Takako thought we should mess around with the perspective of the pics, since Mika is small and Takako is tall for a Japanese.

Takako has been keeping busy exercising with 'Billy's Boot Camp Elite' and has been in Drivers Ed on base for about two weeks. We can't believe that it is already the end of August.

We also added a pic of Day-bis & Kuro to the compilation.

The Nintendo Wii has passed up the XBox 360 in Worldwide sales. It took the Wii nine months to get past the 360 which has been out for about a year and nine months. Too many in the media are still wondering when the Wii 'bubble' will burst. Not any time soon in my opinion. Casual/hardcore bundled in one console, the Nintendo Wii. It is too bad the PS3 hasn't quite taken off like so many had predicted. Right around the corner are must-buys. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Mario Galaxy. Then into 2008 we will have Mario Kart on the Wii (online playable). Not to mention the great DS games that are on the way. えーー教習所通い始めましたが、英語でさっぱり分からん。アメリカンジョークにもついていけず、、ってか、同じクラスに１５、６歳の女の子がいるんだけど、先生が話しているのに、チュッパチャップス舐めながら講習受けているのよ、、ありなのか？って思ったけど、アメリカ人って感じだわ。
さて、１５日、ヤスがサンディエゴに留学します。とうとうアメリカ本土に行ってしまうのね。オーストラリアに１年、その後、ニュージランドに１年、カナダに３ヶ月、で、今回アメリカに２年の留学だっけ？アメリカの次はイギリスかい？
でも、向こうで会えるね。サンディエゴは、綺麗な街だわよね。いいなぁ、西海岸。魚とかも美味しいんだろうな。とにかく向こうで会いましょうね。気をつけて行ってきてね。ごめんね、今日、見送りに行けなくて。

Takako started her Driver's Ed yesterday. All in English, with the teacher making 'American jokes" which Takako doesn't get. She also can't understand some of the other students, high-schoolers, sucking on lollipops during class. (It must be an American or military brat thing...) Tomorrow Yasu will be going abroad to San Diego. He has lived in Australia for one year, New Zealand for one and Canada for three months. This time he will experience 'American-style'. Takako thinks next he will visit England for the full English tour. We should be able to meet in the states. Takako would like to try out the seafood in San Diego. It is, however, the West Coast. Let's meet in 2008, Yasu! Be careful, have a great 'American experience'!

久々にミカチンに会いました。確か、２月か３月頃、ご飯食べたのが最後でしたわ。相変わらず細かったわ。でも元気で何よりですわ。ってか新宿混み過ぎだわ。店探すのが大変だった。さて話題はジョシュの転勤先。場所が決まらず８月ですが、最近動きがあって８０％近くの確率で場所が確定しそう、まだ正式辞令は出てないんだけどね。でもジョシュから場所聞いた時「そこ、どこよ？」って思ったわ。しかも直通便は通ってないし、有名なのっていったらトウモロコシ。。。確かにトウモロコシ好きだけどさ。あー、シアトルかコロラドが良かったな。ってか恵美ママがいるサンディエゴまで遠いんですけど。。。
でもってうちらが行くであろうそこの場所、色々調べたら、農園やってる日本人が多いみたいで、確かに私の夢は自給自足。実は自分で野菜とか作ってみたかったけど、こんなに早く夢が叶うとは（笑）
ジョシュの出発が１２月なんだけど、私は自分の１月の誕生日会を終えてから後から行こうかと思っていたんだよね。でも来年、私、前厄なんだ。うちのマミーが「前厄の前に日本、離れなさい」って言い出してさ。そーゆうの結構気にする家系でね、私も１２月に出発するかな。って事は、後３ヶ月。。ガーン。最近、皆で飲んでいても話題は日本を離れる話でさ、既に泣きそうなんですけど。
あっ、そうそう写真は両手に「ちびっ子」です。また貴重な一枚をゲットしてしまったわ。

Last night, Takako met with Mika & Sachi. It has been a couple of months since she met Mika. Mika still keeps the same weight, thin. Shinjuku was very busy and to find a restaurant was difficult. They were chatting about Takako & I's PCS. For a long time we didn't know where we would go but now it is almost a sure bet. All three of them needed to know where the assignment was located. Josh believes it is famous for...corn. Takako is still hoping for a better assignment, Josh may be able to swap for. Takako researched websites for places like the assignment in question, she has always dreamt of living on a farm. Her wish may come true. We were thinking of Josh leaving first, then Takako following after Josh gets a vehicle, place to stay and settles in. Takako believes that this coming year is a VERY crucial one. Some Japanese believe that one year prior and leading up to her 33rd birthday are "unlucky" years. Hideko now is thinking it would be best for Takako to accompany Josh at the same time. A lot will be happening in the coming months. We'll see. Oh, also this is yet another 'precious' picture.

カリスマ会でした。大将ご推薦のお店「妖精の峪」で。雰囲気は乙女チィックって感じかな。料理は美味しかった。ただ換気が悪くて暑かった。ブヒ。でも今回は皆でお話できた気がする。背もたれのある椅子に座ってテーブルを囲む、なんか会議チィックな感じだったけど、でも、楽しかったなぁ。家族で飲んでる感じだったな。もし私に兄や姉や弟がいたらこんな感じなんだろうなって思うカリスマ会だった。カリスマ会の後は、サチとサムとタクエモンで六本木に。そう、ジョシュは家に帰りました（笑）しかも移動する時、タクシーに乗ったんだけど、貴重な写真をゲットできたわ。右にサム、左にサチ。幻の一枚だわ。
で、六本木では、最近できたばかりのクラブへ、空いてたし、曲もよかった。また行きたいな。後はいつものクラブで朝までいて、ラーメンを食べて家路に。でも人多かったな。夏休みだからおのぼりさんとかも多かったのかもしれないけどさ。
で、家に帰って少し寝た後、ジョシュが前々から見たかったトランスフォーマーを見に映画館へ。おすぎが絶賛していただけあって、凄い良かった。涙が止まらなかったな。体で感じる映画だった。ちなみに主人公の名前は「サム」だったわ。この映画、お勧めだわ。
次はバーベキューか。でもカリスマツアーで遊園地も行きたいわね。。。チョメチョメ

Yesterday we celebrated Karisuma's birthday party at a place in Shinjuku. They had great food but, with this summer being very humid, the air was not in top condition in the restaurant. It was a group of nine of us and we could talk to everyone, very comfy in that regard. It felt like a party with the whole family. Once the party concluded, Takako, Sachi, Sam and Taku went to Roppongi for the night into the early morning, Josh went home to feed the little boys and get some sleep. Taku took a 'precious' picture while in the cab...see above. The first club they visited had good music but it was empty. They then went to their 'local' pub, Mowtown 2 until it was time for Ramen and hop back on the trains, bound for home. Takako is enjoying anytime spent with friends since we will be leaving soon. This morning, Takako took a short nap, we then went to the mall to watch Transformers. It was a good movie, Takako even cried at parts...

運転って大変なのねってか怖い。昨日からベースの中で練習開始。運転できる人、改めて凄いと思ったわ。しかも高速道路運転する人、アッパレよ。だってねスピード２０キロでもゴッツ怖かった。助手席に乗っている時は２０キロなんて、遅すぎって感じだったけど、いざ、運転してみると、２０キロ、早い。絶対高速道路なんか乗りたくないし、乗れないであろう、ってかアメリカのハイウェイ運転できるのか不安。きっと、斜線変更できずに、そのまま突き進んでいくんだろうな。明日も練習だわ。気分が全くのらない。やはり車、好きじゃない。アメリカ、地下鉄とかもっとあればいいのに、不便だわ。
そうそう今日は隅田川と立川の花火大会だわ。人、多そうだわ。携帯が全く通じない。困ったものだわ。
隅田川の花火は行った事ないけど、立川のは２回行ったかな。人が多すぎて、電車は乗れないし、しかも暑いし。
今年は、ベースの中から見たわ。遠かったけど、花火きれいだったな。チョメチョメ

Yesterday, Takako had her first driving lesson on base. For the first 30 minutes, we drove around in a recangular parking lot at about 10-20 kph (6-12 mph). She felt like it was really fast. She stated that, being in the passenger side, the slow speed seems much slower. She was actually driving! She finished off the day at dusk, lights on and driving slowly (30 kph) in base housing. Today we also went on base, she tried out driving in the housing areas and areas with stoplights. She has been doing a great job at all of these, getting more familiar with turning the steering wheel and of course holding it at 10 & 2. We finished off tonight by practicing parking. Left and right turns into straight parking spots. She is a pro at turning left, although can work on the right turn parking. Tomorrow, more of the same and possibly 'parallel parking'.

昨日はカナコママのお誕生日会でした。ママ、行きつけのお店でやりました。
楽しかったでゴザル。ってか、サチ以外、皆人見知りでね。最初の１時間ぐらいは会話もとぎれとぎれでした。というのも、
実は昨日、初対面の人が２人いてね。私の人見知り度も昨日は凄くて、でもお酒の力と時間がたつにつれて、だんだんとお話できるようになり、最後はあだ名もつけました。楽しかったな。ケーキも美味しかった。
またカナコママ飲みましょう。お誕生日おめでとう。

Yesterday was Kanako's Birthday. She is Sachi's younger sister. It's been about eight months since Takako last saw her.
Takako didn't speak to some new people at the restaurant for about one hour.
She is always shy around new people. Once she gets to know them, she will label them with a nickname.
Takako had a great time and the cake delicious.
